Tata Steel and ACME Group announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a green hydrogen and green ammonia project at Tata Steel's Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP) in Odisha.

The project will be the largest single-location green hydrogen-and-its-derivatives manufacturing facility in the country, the companies said.

Under the MoU, ACME Group will acquire 343 acres of land at GIP, at an estimated investment of ₹27,000 crore, through its subsidiary ACME Clean Energy. The group will establish a 1.3 million tonnes per annum green ammonia production facility that will be exported via the Gopalpur Port.

GIP, in Odisha's Ganjam district, is being developed by Tata Steel SEZ Ltd, a 100 percent subsidiary of Tata Steel, as an emerging manufacturing hub for domestic and export-oriented industries.

In a statement, ACME Group founder and chairman Manoj Upadhyay said, "This project will help us offer Make in India green hydrogen and green ammonia to domestic and international markets at competitive prices."

ACME is planning to tie up with Japan's IHI Corporation for the project, with Upadhyay saying IHI had signed a preliminary agreement during the Invest Odisha Summit in Tokyo to invest in green energy projects in the state.

ACME and IHI had signed an MoU earlier this year to jointly explore the business opportunities in green hydrogen and its derivatives.
