Gentari partners with AM Green for large-scale green ammonia production

The clean energy division of Malaysia's Petronas, Gentari on Monday (Oct. 30) signed an agreement with AM Green BV along with an affiliate of Singapore's investment entity, GIC, to jointly invest in a green ammonia platform, AM Green Ammonia Holdings BV -- owned by Greenko Group founders, Mahesh Kolli and Anil Kumar Chalamalashetty. 

The latest partnership will focus on production of green ammonia across various locations in India and Gentari along with AM Green is expected to invest, in phases, in various projects. The partners aim to secure a competitive supply of hydrogen to the global market through this deal which is said to be  key for manufacturing and exporting green hydrogen in the region.

AMG Ammonia is looking to produce 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of green ammonia using round-the-clock renewable energy by 2030. The first export of green ammonia will be delivered by end of 2025 and will serve key OECD markets, such as Germany, Japan, and South Korea, as well as Singapore.

According to Gentari, the 5 MTPA of green ammonia produced by the platform will be equivalent to approximately 1 MTPA of green hydrogen and would represent 20% of India's target for green hydrogen production by 2030, or 10% of Europe's target for imported renewable hydrogen.
